Yesterday morning I completed the scenery and sorted out the backscene, its far from perfect but then again I'm only trying to give myself an idea as to how things might look. So the trees are just pieces of lichen and the rest of the greenery is from whatever I found lying around in my scenic materials box.
Likewise I didn't spend much time on painting the bridges or constructing the buildings. I plotted the latter out on a piece of card and simply folded them together in one piece, shades of the old craft kits which I used to enjoy building at primary school. Anyone remember those, I don't suppose they use them today but they were such fun.
As it stands the mock up is too cluttered, mind you the use of coarse ground cover doesn't help, the diorama which will eventually follow at some point will be more open towards the backscene. But despite my mistakes I think the scene works and I've learned a lot from this simple exercise, so I should be able to hit the ground running when I build the diorama. To be honest after a lifetime working in 4mm scale I've not found it easy adapting to 2mm modelling, especially when it comes down to working out the proportions of everything and I think it shows. But were I younger with decent eyesight I would seriously consider 2mm finescale, especially now that I'm more interested in scenic modelling and photography.
Having kept a rough log of the project I can tell you that I've spent just short of ten hours building it.
Made up from odd moments here and there as the mood has taken me, you might think that is a waste of time but I certainly don't because I've really enjoyed myself and will save time when it comes to building the actual diorama. But don't hold your breath waiting for me to start because I've a few other projects on the go....
